สิ่งที่ “สื่อ” มากกว่า “สาร”

หากมีบางวันที่ก้าวเท้าออกจากบ้านด้วยความรู้สึกขุ่นๆ มีกี่ครั้งที่เราพบเห็นสิ่งที่ช่วยบรรเทาความหมองมัวได้ระหว่างทาง บางอย่างที่ช่วยชุบชูใจให้สดใสอีกครั้ง...

ผู้โดยสารที่ใช้บริการรถไฟฟ้าใต้ดินในลอนดอนมักคุ้นเคยดีกับ “ป้ายกระจายข่าว” ที่ตั้งอยู่บนจุดที่สะดุดตาภายในสถานีแต่ละแห่ง แม้ว่าที่มาและประวัติศาสตร์ของมันจะไม่ชัดเจนนัก แต่ก็นับเป็นเวลานานมาแล้วที่ป้ายกระจายข่าวนี้ทำหน้าที่แจ้งข่าวสำคัญให้ผู้โดยสารทราบเพื่อวางแผนหรือปรับเปลี่ยนวิธีเดินทางหากจำเป็น อาทิ เกิดเหตุรถไฟดีเลย์อย่างสาหัสที่สถานี... หรือสถานี... ต้องปิดซ่อมกะทันหัน (ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นในบางครั้ง) ฯลฯ เพื่อผู้โดยสารที่ต้องไปยังสถานีดังกล่าวจะเสาะหาวิธีเดินทางแบบอื่นแทน เช่น เปลี่ยนไปใช้รถเมล์ แท็กซี่ หรือเดิน

อย่างไรก็ดี ไม่กี่ปีให้หลังนี้ สังคมลอนดอนได้เห็นความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่น่าสนใจของป้ายกระจายข่าวในสถานีรถไฟ ซึ่งได้กลายเป็นสีสันใหม่ทั้งแก่ผู้พบเห็นและแก่โลกโซเชียลของชาวลอนดอน เพราะในวันที่ระบบรถไฟราบรื่นสะดวกสบาย ป้ายกระจายข่าวก็จะกลายร่างเป็น “กระดานจรรโลงใจ” ที่แสดงข้อความให้ข้อคิด/กำลังใจ ระลึกถึงบุคคลสำคัญหรือศิลปินที่ให้ความสุขแก่ชาวโลก (ซึ่งมีทั้งนักร้องผิวขาว ผิวสีและไอดอลเกาหลี!) นักบอลอังกฤษที่สู้ยิบตาในศึกบอลโลกและการแสดงความยินดีกับฝรั่งเศสผู้คว้าแชมป์ เรื่อยไปจนถึงมุกตลกแสบๆ คันๆ สไตล์อังกฤษ และที่น่าสนใจที่สุดคือ “ข้อความส่งกำลังใจให้ทีมหมูป่าทุกคนปลอดภัย” เมื่อหลายเดือนก่อน

London Tube Notice Board - more than just a communications tool

Should there be days we leave home in the morning feeling blue? How many times have we come across some things that soothe our gloomy mind?

Generally, passengers of London Underground are familiar with the “notice board”, the service information board placing on areas that make it easy to get noticed. Despite its background is unclear, London tube notice boards have been there long enough to be well known as an important medium that communicates to passengers who may need to change travel plans in case of system breakdown or severe delay has been caused en route.

However, the last few years have seen some dramatic changes of London tube notice boards that seem to jazz up the manoeuvers of passengers and London social media. On the days of good service, the notice boards will turn into sociable boards. They inspire/encourage passersby, commemorate distinguished figures or mention about world’s best loved artists (white, black and even Korean boy band!), make fun of UK’s own weather conditions, thank English footballers who fought their hearts out in the World Cup and congratulate France the champion, put on English-style itching jokes, and more. Interestingly, an encouraging message hoping for the better days of “Thai cave boys” was seen at Angel Station a few months ago!
